A former KwaZulu-Natal public prosecutor who is facing corruption charges at the Durban Specialised Commercial Crimes Court has been released on R3 000 bail.
Advocate Matthews Ngwenya was based at Madadeni in Newcastle north of Durban
Hawks spokesperson Simphiwe Mhlongo says Ngwenya allegedly demanded a R10 000 bribe from a rape suspect to get rid of the charges.
Mhlongo says the suspect allegedly blew the whistle when he was sentenced to life imprisonment.
The advocate was released on R3 000 bail and his case was postponed to July 23.
