Johannesburg traffic authorities have arrested over 150 motorists so far this Easter weekend.
Traffic volumes remain high as many make their way to various destinations.
It has been reported that dozens of people have lost their lives however the actual number of road fatalities will only be known when government releases the statistics.
Johannesburg Metro Police Spokesperson Wayne Minnaar says the Easter road safety campaign has started to yield positive results.
“Over 4 000 citations have been issued – 135 drunken drivers arrested up until yesterday (Friday), and 33 suspects arrested for serious crimes. They will have to face court proceedings however some have been given bail.”
