Baroka FC and Maritzburg United shared spoils in a 1-1 draw on the final day of the 2018/19 Absa Premiership season at the old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday.
The stalemate was a good enough result to save Baroka’s status as Maritzburg also avoided the automatic drop.
This means Bakgaga finished the term in 14th place with 29 points while Maritzburg finished in 15th spot with 27 points.
The visitors dominated proceedings in the first half and were rewarded in the 19th minute by Fortune Makaringe giving them a 1-0 lead into the break.
The second half saw the hosts create better chances. In the 65th minute Captain Mduduzi Mdatsane finished Tshidiso Patjie’s free-kick to level and hand his side the all important point.
Baroka coach Wedson Nyirenda is happy to see the end of an interesting season.
Nyirenda says the past week was hard for his players as they could have avoided coming into the final day with survival anxieties.
Meanwhile Maritzburg coach Eric Tinkler says he appreciates another shot to fight for survival referring to the PSL promotion playoffs.
However the coach was disappointed they let a safety chance slip out of their hands in Polokwane.
