Police have arrested a 30 year old man suspected of being part of an armed group which robbed 19 American students in Mamelodi, east of Pretoria, on Monday.
The suspect and four alleged accomplices, who are still on the run, robbed a group of students from Florida University in the US, of their laptops, cellphones, cash and travel documents.
The American students were visiting the Viva Foundation Pre-school as part of an exchange outreach programme with the University of Pretoria when they were attacked.
The man was arrested in the Pienaarspoort informal settlement in Mamelodi East.
Police spokesperson Mathapelo Peters says the suspect will appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Monday on charges of robbery, attempted murder and assault.
