The domestic league champions will, as off next season walk away with a hefty R15 million cheque, a 50% increase from the previous seasons.

PSL chairman Irvin Khoza made the announcement at the league’s offices in Johannesburg on Wednesday.

The league runners-up will walk away with R7.5-million for their trouble while the team that finishes third will be R3.75-million richer. Khoza explains further.

In the 2019/20 league season, the 16 PSL teams altogether pocketed R29,5-million in prize money.

The latest increase will see all combined PSL teams earn R39,9-million, which reflects a R10,4-million increase from the previous season.

Khoza also revealed the opening fixtures for the 2019/2020 campaign with a mouthwatering Tshwane derby between league title holders Mamelodi Sundowns and city rivals SuperSport United set to headline the start of the new season at Lucas Moripe Stadium on the 3rd of August.

Orlando Pirates will welcome Bloemfontein Celtic while newcomers Stellenbosch United will host Chippa United at Coetzenberg Stadium on the same day.

Kaizer Chiefs are away to Highlands Park in Tembisa on the following day.

Khoza applauded the league sponsors ABSA for the increased incentives and financial advice platforms they will afford to the players going forward.
