Legendary musician Johnny Clegg has been laid to rest during a private funeral service later on Wednesday.

Clegg died in his Johannesburg home on Tuesday at the age of 66.

His Manager Roddy Quin says, “I can confirm that Johnny Clegg was buried by his family at a small gathering of people, which was his family’s request and his request. We will be making an announcement perhaps at the end of the week about a memorial service, which everybody, the public will be invited to.”

The grammy-nominated singer was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2015.

Clegg was fondly known as the ‘White Zulu’ for his command of the language.

His unique blend of African Zulu Rhythms and Western Pop accentuated Clegg as a symbol of change in the 1970s and 80s.

As tributes continue to pour in for the celebrated musician, his family is preparing to lay Clegg to rest. He has been described as a legend that was able to transcend racial barriers.

Clegg retired from the music scene in 2017.

President Cyril Ramaphosa also took the time to pay tribute to the Impi singer when he spoke in Parliament on  Wednesday.

Clegg leaves behind his wife and two sons. His memorial service is expected to be held sometime next week.
