The Alexandra Inquiry will resume in Johannesburg on Monday with National Police Commissioner Khehla Sitole expected to give testimony.
The inquiry, convened by the Human Rights Commission (HRC) and the Office of the Public Protector, is investigating the socio-economic conditions in the township.
The inquiry is also looking at how this impacts on fundamental rights and whether this amount to maladministration, abuse of power, corruption and improper conduct. This is the fourth and final sitting of the inquiry.
“The focus today will be on policing and law enforcement. This follows that there’s no proper enforcement of the rule of law in Alex and allegations that there’s general lawlessness in Alexandra. This final sitting of the inquiry will conclude on Friday,” says the HRC’s Buang Jones.
