Faf du Plessis will continue to captain the South African team in test cricket, but there could be a new captain in the shorter formats of the game in near future.
According to the acting Director of Cricket at Cricket South Africa, Corrie van Zyl, the decision on who should be captain for the shorter formats will be shaped by what the plans future plans are and in particular for the 2023 World Cup in India.
Van Zyl will head up a stand-in selection committee that will meet in the coming days to select the squads for the tour of India.
He says he is also in advanced negotiations on appointing an interim team director for the tour.
The tour to India starts on the 15th of September and will consist of three T20 internationals and three test matches.
