Two people have been shot and killed at Ezakheni outside Ladysmith in the KwaZulu-Natal midlands.
Unconfirmed reports say they are the 28-year-old son of the Alfred Duma Municipality mayor Vincent Madala and his bodyguard.
Police spokesperson Thulani Zwane says the two were ambushed by unknown gunmen while they were sitting in their car.
He says police can confirm that the Ezakheni police opened two counts of murder after two people were shot and killed while they were in the Ezakheni area.
“The two people were in their vehicle at E section at Ezakheni when they were shot dead by unknown suspects. One died on the scene and the second one died later in hospital.”
The motive for the shooting is still unknown at this stage and the matter is under investigation by the Ezakheni police.
