SABC News Iron Solarisleisure 942x577 - All systems go for Ironman African Championships

It’s all systems go for the Ironman African Championships that will take place in the Nelson Mandela Bay in April, with professional athletes from across the globe competing in the Friendly City.

Defending champions, Kyle Buckingham and Lucy Charles will be on the starting line alongside other seasoned professionals like James Cunnama and Ben Hoffman.

The athletes will test a new course that has been plotted to ensure athletes are exposed to more spectators.

Managing Director of Ironman, Keith Bowler, says that 62 nations will be represented.

“Every year we’re trying to lift the bar and I think they are going to be very excited to see the race. If they have never seen the race, they must come down and actually experience Nelson Mandela Bay and see this world class event. We’re into our 15th year as a full distance event, we’re ranked as one of the best races on the globe and every year we’ve seemed to be able to lift that bar,” says Bowler.
