Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng has defended the Constitutional Court’s ruling on spanking.  The Court pronounced moderate chastisement unlawful a few weeks ago setting off a wave of outrage across the country.  Mogoeng says while the judgement contradicts his own beliefs he had to abide by the Constitution of the country.

Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng says a wellness programme has been developed to support magistrates and judges to cope with trauma of dealing with cases such as rape, murder as well as criticism against the judiciary. This Thursday marks Judiciary Day and Mogoeng is releasing the report on the status of the judiciary in Braamfontein, Johannesburg.
